Wave Wellbeing Success Stories: Anya

Anya wanted to feel more confident at her new job.

Anya* (40, she/her) works in publishing and lives in Chicago. When Anya came to Wave, she was stressed about transitioning to a new job. Her first assessment showed symptoms of moderate anxiety, moderate depression, and moderate stress.

Anya’s overthinking was getting in her way.

In her intro session with her Wave coach, Sam, Anya shared that she wanted to stop overthinking and better manage her stress in her new job. Overthinking had become a big part of her life since a surprise layoff a few months ago. She found herself analyzing every little thing that happened at her new job for signs of bad things to come. Anya told her coach that she wants to be in a better mental place at this job, so she could feel her best and make a positive impression.

Her Wave Coach helped Anya open up and explore her emotions.

Together, Anya and Sam honed in on three key domains: awareness, connection, and balance

Anya had never done any sort of coaching or therapy before, so it was a new experience for her to open up about how she was feeling. After learning more about Anya, Sam suggested they focus their first few sessions on skills like mindfulness, communication, and supportive routines. They developed a new morning routine, explored advocacy and relationship-building at work, and even practiced setting boundaries with an unsupportive friend.

Anya’s anxiety, depression, and stress all improved with coaching.

After about 8 sessions, Anya repeated the assessment and her moderate anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms had all dropped into the normal range. Anya told Sam that she was feeling much more open to trying new things and excited about where coaching could take her.

Coach Sam shares, “When I started working with Anya, she was in a very vulnerable season of her life. She was really struggling with the level of discomfort she had day to day. It seemed like she was at a place of being willing to try something new and lean into the process. Because we had a strong relationship, I noticed that Anya seemed more and more open to experimenting and learning about what really worked for her, both in and out of work.”
